About the New MotivAider's Random Interval Capability

The random interval setting (RAN) on the new MotivAider replaces the average interval setting (AVE) on the current model. The RAN setting is available in combination with all other advanced functions. For example, the MotivAider can be programmed to send signals on a random interval basis with the seconds (SEC) input units setting also selected.

How to program the MotivAider to operate in the random interval mode

With the SET/RUN switch in the SET position, press the oval user key 3 times. Press either timer control button until RAN appears on the screen. Move the SET/RUN switch briefly to RUN to save the RAN setting.

What to expect

In the random interval mode, the time interval you set establishes the maximum amount of time that will pass between signals.

When you move the SET/RUN switch to RUN, the MotivAider will send the first signal at the set interval and all subsequent signals at randomly selected intervals up to (and including) the set interval. It will continue sending signals at randomly selected intervals until the SET/RUN switch is placed at SET.

To illustrate, if you set a time interval of 10 minutes, the MotivAider will send the first signal in 10 minutes followed by signals at randomly selected intervals between 1 minute and 10 minutes.

If you set a time interval in minutes, the MotivAider randomly selects from whole minute intervals, for example, 1 minute, 4 minutes, 9 minutes, etc. If you set an interval in seconds, the MotivAider randomly selects from intervals in seconds.

By the way, with input units set to seconds (SEC), you can enter any interval ranging from 10 seconds to 4999 seconds. With input units set to hours/minutes (HM), you can enter any interval from 1 minute to 11 hours and 59 minutes.

Notes:

  • The impact of a random schedule will be minimal if you choose very short intervals. For example, if you set an interval of 2 minutes, the only two possible intervals that can be randomly selected are 1 minute and 2 minutes.
  • When setting the time interval in seconds, a randomly selected interval could be shorter than or equal to the actual duration of the vibration. This can result in an occasional overlapping of two signals.
